....is a Historic Homes Tour

Two weeks ago I went on the SOHO Historic Home Tour of early 20th-Century Mission Hills . There were six homes on the map but a friend from work, MC, & I turned it into a walking tour of the whole neighborhood. It was a dreary day for San Diego Spring but I had a great time looking thru the houses & finding other gems, like the home (and matching mailbox in the bottom left) in the picture above.

....is an Easter Bike Ride

On Easter Sunday the San Diego looked a little like this, blue skies and sunshine. My day started with some French Toast, and I honestly thought that was going to be the highlight, it was really good French Toast. My boyfriend suggested a bike ride in La Jolla, there's a beautiful beach and a whole lot of ocean to see. The only problem, small problem really, is the BIG hill between my apartment & the sandy shore.
View from the top of the hill.
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography & Caroline's Seaside Cafe.
A few reflection pictures at the bottom of the hill.
Lunch at Puesto, Mexican Street Food on top of another hill.

After lunch we sat on the grass and enjoyed the sunshine a little more.
The only downside was the up hill required to get back.
(Notice there are no 'after' pictures showcasing our sweat, exhaustion and my sunburnt arms.)

....is a Few Favorites, March TwentyThirteen

I took a little trip to Kansas at the beginning of the month, my brother is a freshman and we picked his birthday weekend to go out and visit. The trip also included a Jayhawks Basketball game at the Phog (Rock Chalk!), snow, and a couple walks down Massachusetts Street.

I could spend hours in here searching the shelves and petting the adorable cat in the arm chair.

I love both the flowers and the Java Break Coffee shop they're from. There's something so pretty about flowers in the winter.

I don't own a pair of these yet, but they're on my list. I find them absolutely charming.

Here's the biggest souvenir I've ever brought back on a plane from anywhere. It was found in an unlikely clothing boutique. I had to take out all the drawers and put them in a box and wrap the shelf part in brown paper in order to stay under the weight limits. It took a lot of soapy water and paper towels to clean it up. I'll have another post on the mini base we built for it. :)

Right before my trip I dropped and cracked my phone, I like my lightweight case but it didn't do enough to protect it. I did a little research and this case has more protection without the bulk, it's reviews were equal to the otter box commuter.

It's not that I neeeeeed these, I have ramekins, they match my dishes, they're lovely. These are just so darling and Easterly.

The latest city mugs, I bought the California one as a gift for my brother, it's bright and happy and will help keep him warm thru the Kansas winter. I guess they can only be found in stores (or airports) because I couldn't find a link for them.

Time to go ganache a stout cake  and figure out exactly how I want to cook my brisket.
Happy St. Patricks Day!!!

....is a Few Favorites, February TwentyThirteen

I'm not sure how they are all Orange and Teal but maybe that's what's been on my mind. I'm taking a cue from one of my favorite blogs and her monthly favorites. It's always nice to read an honest review and see what other people have found recently.

The first favorite was the gift I gave for Valentines day:

....is a 'Winter' Weekend

Super Bowl Weekend, early February and well.... it's GORGEOUS here. I have a brother in Kansas and best friend in Texas who are both a little upset with me for throwing these pictures up on Facebook, but seriously, seriously. Blue skies, sunshine and 70 degree in February is about as good as it gets. Last year at this time I was living in the Pacific Northwest, and while there's beautiful scenery at every turn it is also grey, sooo grey this time of year. Here's a few pictures of my adventures with CPB this weekend.

Costa Mesa, California
That's a lot of beer on draft. Local & delicious.

BBQ, Bacon, Potato Chip Waffle Burger....and Waffle Fries!

Industrial furniture and indigenous plants.

And a little shopping around the OC Mart MIX

Super Bowl Funday Run....and accidental hike in Torrey Pines.
The only way down to the beach (we thought) was a craggily ravine. Turns out there were stairs not too far away. What good is a run with without a little adventure.
There's a palm tree in there. Do you see it?

Running in sand is hard, I think I'm a bit of a sissy about it.
Luckily I have a great coach.

Winter here is just terrible....

....is a Little Christmas.

Christmas this year was first in a new apartment and first in town in a long time. We decorated small but I LOVED every little bit.
